I only need to think about my antifreeze in the winter.....right?
WRONG!!!
The cooling system is just as important in the summer! Pulling your boat or camper and having an overheating problem is no fun, and hard on your vehicle.

Why?
Over an extended period of time, antifreeze becomes a very corrosive product that will plug the small passages in the radiator and the heater core as well as corrode the block, waterpump and cylinder heads. Even with the "extended life antifreeze" in the newer cars today I still recommend changing the antifreeze every 3 to 4 years this will help to prevent any corrosion damage.
So, when was the last time your cooling system was flushed?
PS...
As we discussed in the July Car Care Awareness Class - Your radiator cap can be dangerous! DO NOT remove the cap unless your vehicle is completely cool. We don't want anyone getting burnt! Car Care Awareness Class happens once a month. You can register for the next class from the link below!

It's that time of year again... Time for the annual Faster Pastor race at Hawkeye Downs Speedway!
Do you remember the "Cash for Clunkers" Promotion back in June? Many vehicles were given away to local charity, but some of them weren't going to be very good gifts. These less-than-quality vehicles earned their ticket into the Faster Pastor Race!

Here's how it works:
Friday, August 19th at the races Cassill Motors will have a fun race during intermission at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids. Each Pastor drives their own "clunker race car" to the finish in a short race! At the end of the race the winning Pastor earns the "Faster Pastor" title and there are donations made to the charity of their choice! Will you come out to cheer them on?
2011 Entries:
Pastor Jamie Wolf, Troy Mills Community Church (Returning Champion)
Pastor Poling, Stonebridge Church
Pastor Tom Darland, Oakland Church of the Nazarene
Pastor Rick Gail, 1st Assembly of God, Cedar Rapids
Pastor Tim Pridegon, Lifeline Ministries and Isaac Newton Christian Academy
Pastor David Mosher, Trinity Lutheran Church, Walford

In Honor of Dean Redmon...
This Saturday will be the 1st annual Customer Appreciation Day at Cassill Motors and we would like to honor Dean Redmon. Dean and his family have been very special friends of the Cassill Family for years and we were saddened by his passing. For as long as we have known Dean he was involved in the Silent Messenger Program with the Shriners Children's Hospital.
Providing free orthopedic and burn care to children under 18. Shriner's Hospitals are located throughout North America. The Silent Messenger Program also helps families who are using the hospital get the transportation to the hospital that they need!
We are excited to put on this benefit to honor and continue what Dean was all about!

The other day as I logged into my personal Facebook account I saw a funny picture looking back at me. “A car in the dumpster…?” Was the caption. One of my young friends had snapped the picture while waiting in the McDonalds drive-through beside our Williams Blvd Location. The picture was similar to this one:
While the dumpsters are designed to catch your eye, the real purpose of Cassill Motors “Cash for Clunkers” program is to save cars from the dumpster!
THE HISTORY: Do you remember a couple of years ago when the government kicked off the original “cash for clunkers” incentive? In an effort to boost the economy - and save the earth - (good things to do)... we were encouraged to take our cars to the nearest new car dealership and trade it in for something that gets better gas mileage. And many folks did just that.
But what happened to those cars that were traded? They were destroyed. Sent to the junk yard and crushed. In fact, the engines were locked up so that they could not even be used for parts! YouTube was flooded with videos of still-good cars being destroyed.
But I'm not here to talk politics.
Here at Cassill Motors, we are car lovers. We love fast cars… we love shiny new-er cars…. we love classic cars…. we love old reliable cars – from Festiva’s to Mercedes… big and small and everything in between.
And we love people. We love people who can afford expensive cars, and people who need less expensive cars too. We love kids who are just learning how to drive, or working people who need to get from here to there.
When we put those two loves together, oddly enough, we could say that our “used car business” was green before green became the fad. We have made a life out of reduce.... (the the cost), reuse.... (trade your car) and recycle (buy a used one)...!
What happens to your "clunker" when you participate in Cassill Motors Cash for Clunkers Program?
One of 2 fates awaits your clunker:
#1 If it is a decent vehicle, it is given to the Salvation Army for families in need.
Or #2 If it really is junk, we will get it running long enough to compete in the “Faster Pastor Race” at Hawkeye Downs in July. Area Pastors will race the “Clunkers” for a donation to their charity!
It is a really fun race to watch – if you only go to Hawkeye Downs for one race this year (or if you have never been there) you should plan on coming to this one!
Now that you know the story behind “Cash for Clunkers” I would love for you to share it! Go ahead – put this on your Facebook / Twitter and tell your friends about the "car in the dumpster…?” – Only at Cassill Motors!

Monthly Class: 2nd Thursday of the month at 6PM $$FREE$$
This class was born from a conversation on the popular radio show "The Expert Hour" on AM 600 WMT when a caller commented on her frustration at the lack of basic maintenance skills taught to drivers today. She had a point, and throughout the show that day more callers called with their questions mentioning "...by the way, that lady was right, there should be a class like that!"
We aren't knocking Drivers Ed, there is a lot to learn about driving... and not everything can be taught in the classroom! They simply don't have time to teach our sons and daughters to change tires, or anything about fuel filters, or checking air filters/getting better gas mileage... How do I know if it is safe to keep driving when a warning light comes on on the dash? Jay Cassill can address these questions in a fun and interactive way! The best thing about this class... you have Jay Cassill's undivided attention! He loves to answer questions and if there is something you want to understand better, he will make sure that you do!
Join Jay Cassill at the 16th Ave SW location as he teaches this class! Great for kids, Moms, Dads - anyone who owns a car should know how to take care of it!
Would you do me a favor right now? On the button below that says "vote here" would you please click and place your vote for what interests you. Check all that apply - or write in a special request! You can also register to attend from the same form!
Hope to see you there!

Today Jay Addresses 2 Common Car Questions...

Why does my vehicle seem to have less get up and go then when I first purchased it?
and
My fuel pump went bad, is there anything I could have done to prevent this?
The answer to both of these questions can be found in your.... FUEL FILTER
The fuel filters on our older cars were usually smaller in size and located next to the carburetor so we replaced them regularly, fuel filters today are mounted down on the under side of the vehicle back towards the fuel tank.
So when should I replace my fuel filter?
On your passenger vehicle I recommend every 30,000 miles, now if you are in a dustier or dirtier area most of the time I would do it sooner depending on condition. If you drive a diesel I recommend 15000-20000 miles, again depending on the conditions you are in.
There are many repairs that have been done that a proper fuel filter replacement would have saved you money on in the long run. So, if you don't know when it was done last let's inspect and/or replace that old one.
-Jay Cassill
